November Came Early This Year

Our last challenge for Square Carousel was to pick and illustrate a month of the year for a calendar.  I chose November, and here we have two Native American poodles celebrating Thanksgiving!  Read more here http://squarecarousel.tumblr.com/

Miss November

For the upcoming challenge for Square Carousel, each member chose a month in the year to illustrate.  We will be compiling a calendar after everyone has completed.  I chose November and I decided to illustrate a poodle...as an indian princess.  She's in the beginning stages of sketching, but I think she will make a wonderful spread for November :)

I participated in They Draw and Cook's Kraft recipe contest recently. It was really fun to draw one of my favorite dishes, a little jazzed up. Enjoy.

Nemo!

The latest challenge for Square Carousel was about your favorite movie. Mine has to be Finding Nemo. I just love this movie along with many other pixar films. I painted Marlin, Nemo and Squirt with guache, and the background is painted with watercolor.

Tinsel Town

While decorating the Christmas tree this year, I ran into a piece of paper. So... I read it. It was a charming little German legend of how garland came about. One Christmas a woman chased the spiders of her home into her attic (If only it were that simple.) Later that night the curious spiders saw the beautiful tree and started spinning webs to make it even more beautiful. When Santa saw the tree he turned the spider webs into gold and silver to keep the woman's feelings from being hurt by the spiders.

Merry Christmas!

Everyone has different traditions during this holiday season, obviously. However you get into the spirit this year, have a great time, and enjoy the things you love most.

Fibery Flurry

I am making snow globes!! Well, waterless snowglobes. I love going to garage sales, and I found a couple of nice jarss to use as the container, and several little trees for inside. For the snow I am using tons of neat things. Several things: scrap peices of paper from my business cards (which is a really nice shimmery green), old metro tickets from the subways in Paris, French stamps, gold foil, and who knows what else. I'm really looking forward to putting these together, and having some nostaligic peices of my own hanging around for the holidays :)

Square Carousel

So I have had the lovely pleasure of being invited to join the Square Carousel collaborative! I'm happy to say I'm joining some wonderful artists who happen to also be SCAD grads like me (Go Bees!)
For my first challenge with the group, we drew self portraits, which I think is a nice update for me. I recently went back to being a redhead, so as much as I loved my brunette self portrait, it's time for it to retire for now. Let me know what you think!

Sincerely,
Molly k.

I've been playing around with text and font, which is pretty fun to create your own. Fun for a change.

The SkechBook Project

This is the front and back cover to the 2011 SketchBook Project! I used my ochres I got in France several years ago from an ochre quarry, with guache and acrylic. Kind of nice switching mediums around a bit. I'll keep updating as I get more done!

Bruno is Going in the Mail

So, I have very late summer/early fall promotional mailers going out! Bruno, of course, graces the cover, and will be in the mail pronto. Let's hope I'll get more work from these, student loan payments are becoming very real!
